Internship positions in LIFT

By Yawen LiComments Off on Internship positions in LIFT

Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow (LIFT) is recruiting for two separate internship opportunities, one focusing on Material Science and Mechanical Engineering and one focusing on Thermo-Mechanical and an introduction to Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME).

  • The Material Science and Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Mechanics (ME/EM) internship is open to juniors in a relevant undergraduate program and will expose the student to concepts of equipment certification, standards, and statistical variation. The student will have the opportunity to apply these concepts by performing testing on materials derived during the LIFT Metrology Lab’s Melt and Joining projects.
  • The Thermo-Mechanical and Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) internship is open to seniors in a relevant undergraduate program and will afford the student the opportunity to familiarize themselves with LIFT manufacturing capabilities in Thermo-Mechanical Processing (TMP) as well as participate on teams working on TMP related research. The TMP programs will also allow the student a view into the use of ICME as a component of advanced research.

Students will gain exposure to LIFT’s broader focus on its technology pillars: Joining and Assembly, Coatings, Novel/Agile Processing, Thermo-Mechanical Processing, and Powder Processing. Students may be exposed to a variety of equipment and processes including: extrusion press, flexible joining system, hydroforming press, stamping/forming press, hot isostatic processing, metal injection molding, tilt-pour casting, and linear friction welding through an introduction to the new equipment in LIFT’s High Bay.

Interested students must apply through the Zintellect application system. The application deadline is May 31, 2018 and the internship period is August – December, 2018. Students can find additional information, including direct links to the application, on the LIFT Learning Lab Internship website.
